Planning your honeymoon in Sicily? We’ve got you covered!

You may wonder where to stay in Sicily, which city is the most convenient and beautiful, how much it costs, what’s the best month to visit and the best spots to experience one of the most important moments of your life?

We are a company made of true, born-and-raised Sicilians! We have lived and breathed this island since birth, and we’re here to guide you through every step of your journey.

On this page, we’re going to answer the toughest questions about planning a honeymoon in Sicily and explain why Siracusa (no, not Syracuse, NY!) might just be your best choice.

How to choose your arrival airport

First of all, we recommend planning your itinerary based on your arrival airport. There are three main airports:

.

Catania Fontanarossa (CTA): The ideal gateway for the East Coast (Etna, Siracusa, Taormina, Noto).

Palermo Falcone e Borsellino (PMO): Perfect if you want to explore the West Coast (Palermo, Cefalù, San Vito Lo Capo).

Reggio Calabria (REG): Located right across the puddle in Calabria. Don’t rule it out! A scenic ferry ride across the Strait of Messina gets you into Sicily quickly, often offering strategic flight connections.

.

.

Depending on where you land, you can choose the perfect city as your home base. Keep in mind that airport transfers are easily available across the island.

You don’t have to land and leave from the same airport. You can land in Palermo, drive across the island, and fly out of Catania.

(By the way: if coordinating open-jaw flights and car rentals feels overwhelming, don’t worry. Our team assists our guests with flight planning and transfers every day. We can handle that for you too).

Make a list of your priorities!

Your honeymoon shouldn’t feel like a rushed backpacking trip for teenagers. You need freedom and slow moments between visits, these are days you will cherish forever!

.

Start by making a list of your non-negotiable spots and activities:

-Do you love history? If so, which era? Or maybe architecture?

-Do you prefer mountain landscapes or coastal beach spots?

-Do you want to focus on food tours or do you have a specific wine tasting in mind?

.

Take your time together. Sit down and make that list.

Choosing your timing. What’s the best month for a honeymoon in Sicily?

Depending on your availability, you can now choose the best time of the year to visit. As a local team headquartered 365 days a year on this beautiful island, here is our take on the seasons:

.

🌸 Spring (March – April – May)

This is the absolute best period for sight-seeing and outdoor exploration without the suffocating heat.

.

Weather: Temperatures range from 14° C to 22° C (57°F to 72°F). March and April can be unpredictable with occasional sudden rain showers, but May feels like pure summer.

Keep in mind: The sea is still chilly. Beautiful to look at, but generally too cold for locals to swim until May

☀️ Summer (June – July – August)

Those are peak of Sicilian energy. Perfect, warm sea temperatures. This is the ultimate choice if your dream honeymoon revolves around beaches, boat tours and late-night outdoor dining.

Weather: hot and dry, averaging 28° C to 35°C (82°F to 95°F). Rain is extremely rare.

Keep in mind: August is the peak holiday season in Europe. The island is crowded, and hotel prices are at their highest.

🍂 Autumn (September – October – November)

The frantic summer rush ends, but the warm summer energy remains.

Weather: it’s a golden tail-end of summer. Temperatures go from a warm 26°C (79°F) in September down to a mild 18°C (64°F) in November.

Keep in mind: November marks the official transition into winter; days get shorter, and coastal resort towns start slowing down and closing beach clubs for the season.

❄️ Winter (December – January – February)

Absolutely zero crowds. You will have historic cities like Siracusa entirely to yourselves, and hotel rates are highly advantageous. Plus, you can see snow on Mount Etna!

Weather: Crisp and fresh, hovering around 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F). Expect a mix of sunny days, windy coastline walks and winter storms.

Keep in mind: This is not a beach holiday. Some seasonal restaurants in seaside villages close for annual holidays.

Why Siracusa is the best home base for your honeymoon

Siracusa perfectly embodies the romantic essence of Sicily. Here is why it makes the ultimate home base for your trip:

.

The perfect location: It sits right on the sea and is incredibly close to Catania Airport (CTA), making your arrival stress-free. The historic center is completely walkable, allowing you to immerse yourself in the authentic Sicilian vita lenta (slow life).

A Hub for Exploration: Noto, Mount Etna, and several hidden gems are just a short drive away.

History and Architecture: It’s a cradle of ancient civilizations, wrapped in breathtaking Baroque architecture.

The magic of Ortigia Island: a tiny, limestone island connected to the mainland by two short bridges. It’s a labyrinth of ancient alleys, sun-drenched Baroque squares, and vibrant markets, completely surrounded by the sea

A culinary heaven: there is an endless variety of local flavors and dishes to discover.

Why is it the best choice specifically for honeymoons?

It’s a haven of romance. The combination of coastal views, historic charm, and the vita lenta creates an intimate atmosphere. Walking through the narrow streets of a seaside borgo, listening to the sound of the waves, and breathing in the salty sea air, it doesn’t get more romantic than this.
